Agnes Ann Yunek, a.k.a “Butz”, age 99, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Woodland Court Elder Services in Merrill, while under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born on April 23, 1925, to the late Herman and Veronica (Lang) Fritsche in Dorchester, WI. Agnes attended and graduated from high school in Dorchester, WI. She married Ben Yunek on July 22, 1944, in Peoria, IL. Sadly, he preceded her in death on February 15, 2010.
Agnes worked at Bard Manufacturing, where she helped produce medical supplies. She then was able to be a stay-at-home mom and homemaker for her family. Agnes also enjoyed volunteering, as did so as often as she could, and was very active with St. Vincent De Paul in Merrill, WI. She had beautiful vegetable and flower gardens at home, and she enjoyed being outdoors working in them. Agnes was talented with wood projects and was an excellent painter. She would make wooden Christmas figurines and give them to her family and friends. Agnes was a helpful and caring woman that had a strong Catholic faith. She was a member at St. Francis Catholic Xavier Catholic Church in Merrill, WI. Agnes will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
Agnes is survived by her son: James “Jim” Yunek of Wausau, WI, granddaughter: Meredith Brezinski of Madison, WI, with her children: Charles, Bennie and Henrey, grandsons: James Magnus Yunek of Madison, WI and Bruce Yunek of Catawba, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Marie Free and brothers: Franklin and Raymond Fritsche.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Agnes will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Merrill, WI. Father Maria Vallabhaneni will officiate. Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill, WI. Burial will take place in Dorchester, WI at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Agnes’ names are encouraged and may be directed to either the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Blind Dog seeing eye dog program.
