Celina J. Schmidt

Celina J. Schmidt, 77, of Merrill, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Celina was born December 3, 1947, in Dowagiac, Michigan, daughter of Charles E. and Coral Jean (Grace) Burkett. She married Mayward Schmidt on September 3, 1966, at St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Merrill. Celina loved raising their five children and was always there to lend a helping hand with her grandchildren.

Celina worked at several places in the Merrill area including Hanson Glove, Oconomowoc Canning, and Fox Point. No job was more rewarding for Celina than working at Lincoln Industries. She provided training to adults who had developmental and physical disabilities. She truly loved going to work and treated each individual with care and compassion.

Celina is survived by her husband, Mayward Schmidt of Merrill; children, Brian (Mandi) Schmidt of Merrill, Duane Schmidt (Jennifer Busche) of Marathon, Denise (Terry) Witter of Merrill, Matthew Schmidt of Edgar, and Chris Schmidt (Tiffany Krenz) of Merrill; grandchildren, Katelyn Schmidt (Austin Vanish) of Athens, Logan Schmidt of Marathon, Devin (Samantha) Thomas of Duluth, Minnesota, Dylin Thomas of Wausau, Dalie Thomas (Luke Baehr) of Poynette, Morgan Schmidt of Merrill, and Lucas Schmidt of Merrill; step grandchildren, Travis (Emily) Witter of Green Bay, Dustin (Joelle) Witter of Wausau, and Terri (Dylan) Walkush of Birnamwood; great grandchildren, Oliver, Levi, Caiden, and Mason; and brother, Jim (Kathy) Dodson of Stevens Point.

Celina was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jean Burkett; granddaughter, Amber Schmidt; and brother, Edward Burkett.

A private memorial service will take place.
