Eugene H. Gryskiewicz, age 83, of Merrill, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Mountview Health Care Center under Asera Hospice Care. Eugene H. was born on July 2, 1931 in the township of Schley to the late Stanley and Ludwiga Gryskiewicz. He married Laura May on July 24, 1954 in Highland Park, Ill. Eugene was very proud to serve his country in the United States Army. He served from June 18, 1952 to March 20, 1954 He received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, National Defense Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. He belonged to many organizations including VFW Post 2687 and Post 1638 , DAV Chapter 29, American Legion Post 93, AM VETS Post 2000, And the Royal Canadian Legion, Eugene H. worked for Anson & Gulkey as a factory worker for many years. He enjoyed farming and owned a hobby farm and later he became a farm hand for others. Eugene also spent some time logging. He enjoyed the outdoors, eating sweets while watching his favorite westerns (especially John Wayne Movies) and his family. Eugene is survived by his loving wife Laura, children; Mike (Desi) Gryskiewicz, MO, Eugene S. (Sue) Gryskiewicz, Frances (Roger) Wienke, Kip (Penny) Gryskiewicz, Pat Gryskiewicz, all of Merrill, 18 grandchildren, 20 ½ great grandchildren, sister, Agnes Gryskiewicz, and many other relatives and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his son, Clarence, sisters; Helen, Pearl, Frances, Mary, Genevieve (Jean), brothers; infant Frank, John, Kostic, Dominic, Stanley, Frank, and Charles. A funeral liturgy for Eugene H. will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Waid Funeral Home Chapel. Fr. Mike McLain will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Full Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post # 2687 and VFW Post #1638. Burial will be at a later date. Special thanks to caretaker Jalene and to his special friends Marie Skic and family.
