Roger William Schwab, 74, passed away on February 25, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends. He was under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care Hospice. Roger was born in Merrill, on July 11, 1940 to Louis and Wilma (Maas) Schwab. He lived his entire life on the family farm. Roger was a dairy farmer until 1997 when he sold cows due to health reasons. He then worked for Hurd Millwork until his retirement.
Roger attended St. John grade school and graduated from Merrill High School, where he was the school photographer. Roger was very active in 4-H in his youth and achieved the key award. He enlisted in the army and served from 1959-1965 in the Red Arrow division.
Roger was a gentle, soft spoken and caring person. He loved gardening, especially flowers. He grew many gorgeous glads and made many bouquets for his family and friends. Roger also enjoyed woodworking and built several homes. He loved to take pictures of nature and family gatherings also.
He met and married Patricia Sandstrom on September 1, 1984. They shared 30 years of life together. Roger is survived by his wife, Patricia, two children; Alyssa Ruth of Minneapolis, MN and Corey Ross (Melissa) of Merrill; one grandson Owen Ross of Merrill; one sister MaryAnn (Emery) Kufahl of Merrill; three brothers-in-law James Sandstrom, Jeffrey (Lynn) Sandstrom, and Gregory (Pat) Sandstrom, and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roger loved most of all spending time with his children and grandson, Owen. He enjoyed so much watching Owen grow and taking him on four-wheeler rides. One of his proudest moments was when Corey got his Eagle Scout and helping him with his projects. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 11AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7PM Sunday, March 1 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10AM until the time of service at the church on Monday. Burial will follow at Merrill Memorial Park. Military honors will be performed by VFW Post 1638. In memory of Roger, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran School.
