Theodore (Teddy) F. Case was born to Theodore F. B. and Aurelia (Massart) Case, Jr on October 14, 1946, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Wausau, WI. He was the oldest of six children.
Teddy and his next oldest sibling, Tommy, and their parents lived with their grandfather and grandmother, Theodore Fayette and Emma Case, Sr in Brokaw, WI in the 1940s. In 1949 the young family moved to Merrill and rented a house on Cottage Street.
Both Teddy and Tommy suffered severe brain injuries at birth that left them severely mentally challenged. As was customary in those years, children were often placed in special settings for care and treatment. Teddy and Tommy moved to Union Grove, WI where they lived through much of the 1960s. In the late 1960s they moved to Milwaukee, and in the early 1970s they lived at Lake Shore Manor in Madison, WI. Following the death of Tommy in August 1972, in a drowning accident, Teddy moved to the Jolly Fisherman Friendly Village in Rhinelander, WI.
Teddy moved to Merrill in 2003, living first at Deerview and for the past 10 years residing at Ken Crass Home. Teddy passed away in the early morning hours of December 26, 2024.
Teddy always loved animals, especially kittens. The family always had a pet cat, and the boys were often found holding and playing with the kittens that the mother would bring to them.
Teddy worked at Lincoln Industries for many years. When various people came to the workshop for meetings, or when members of his family came to visit, he would stop working and make sure to introduce everyone and give short impromptu tours of the facility. He was never bashful, and it made him happy to see people shake hands during these introductions. When shopping at Walmart, he would always introduce his caregivers or family members to total strangers by drawing them together so they could shake hands.
Even though Teddy was apart from his family of origin for most of his life, he was always loved and cherished by his family. He loved being with them and enjoyed the many family vacations they shared throughout the years. Teddy participated in many activities and outings including Special Olympics and bus tours throughout the state of WI.
Teddy had excellent caregivers while living in Merrill, and we are forever grateful for the care he has received. Thank you to the staff of the Ken Crass Home.
